How to dispose of waste in the Department

Dry Waste and Food Waste

Everyday waste is collected in two categories in the Department, Dry Waste and Food Waste.  The waste collection is organised by The University and has been updated to enable the Estate to achieve The University's overarching aim To minimise and actively manage waste through elimination, reduction, reuse and recycling. For further information on how waste is managed please visit the Estates Division Website

You can put any type of waste in the Dry Waste bin except for food or hazardous waste.  Hazardous waste includes electrical (WEEE), batteries, nappies and sanitary products and chemicals (including paints and oils).  Hazardous waste is disposed of separately further information can be found here or for advice please contact the Department’s Safety Office safety-office@eng.cam.ac.uk

  • Furniture - there are various options for recycling/rehoming unwanted furniture such as Warp-it, the University's resources recycling website, or local charities. Please see here for more details.
