Department Access and Opening Hours
Access to the Department of Engineering will differ according to each building and whether you are a member of staff, a postgraduate student, an undergraduate student or visiting the Department from another institution or as a member of the public.
Trumpington Street
Staff and postgraduate students:
Monday to Friday 07:00 to 23:00
Weekends and Bank Holidays 08:00 to 20:00
(excluding May Bank Holidays, which operate as a normal Monday)
(anyone on site after 19:00 must sign in, see Safe Working below)
Undergraduate students:
7 days a week 08:00 to 19:00
Visitors and members of the public (via Reception):
Monday to Friday 08:00 to 16:00
Visitors will only be able to access buildings when Reception is open, or by prior arrangement. All visitors must sign in and out and be accompanied at all times.
West Cambridge
Staff and postgraduate students:
7 days a week 07:00 to 23:00
(anyone on site after 19:00 must sign in, see Safe Working below)
Undergraduate students:
Undergraduate students can access buildings in West Cambridge when Reception is open, or by prior arrangement. Card access for 4th year projects will be set up as required.
Visitors and members of the public:
Visitors will only be able to access buildings when Reception is open, or by prior arrangement. All visitors must sign in and out and be accompanied at all times.

Out of Hours Access
If you need to access a building when it is closed or access is not normally permitted to you, please follow the guidance on requesting Out of Hours Access.
Safe Working
Work within laboratories, workshops (including garages) and plant rooms is restricted to the core hours of 08:00 to 17:00 Monday to Friday unless additional control measures have been put in place. You must always consider the availability of safety and technical support within each specific laboratory and Lone Working must always be avoided.
Anyone who is in the Department after 19:00 Monday to Friday or at any time over the weekend must sign in and out using the screens located in each building. If you are already inside the building but intend to stay late, signing-in is still required.
